Legal person / personality

The Dutch Civil Code does not hold a general definition of the term legal person. It does stipulate, however, that the State and lower governments, other public bodies, churches, associations, mutual insurance companies, public and private limited companies and foundations have legal personality. and liabilities and separate capital. A legal person is an independent bearer of rights and obligations. It can for example enter into contracts.

For as far as property law is concerned a legal person is equal to a natural person, unless the law provides otherwise.
